I remember when I first heard the Kardashian name.  It was when OJ was big in the news. Remember the White Bronco chase? Robert Kardashian was an attorney and a friend to OJ.  The Simpson trial was in 1995.  Fast forward now to 2011.  It’s Robert’s daughters, Kourtney, Kim & Khloe, who are all the news now, apparently. I ran across this picture of Sophia Loren at age (are you ready for this?) SEVENTY-FIVE ! Can this be for real?  How does this happen?  Makeup?  Surely there’s not that much make up in the world… Photoshop?  Well, probably. Plastic surgery? Oh, for sure.  And there is that telltale scarf to hide a saggy neck.  (See how catty I am?). Good genes and God?  Taking care of herself?  Absolutely. Still, the picture is amazing.  She is one beautiful woman. And those boobs don’t look saggy at all—now I KNOW they’ve had some help. C

Yes, I’m on a Mel Gibson roll, here.  This is the third post in a row which has sprung from his shenanigans (see these links for the first and second ).  I have a bully pulpit, here, and I’m fairly elbowing V out of the way to write my thoughts.  Al Gore did me such a favor by inventing this internet thing… There is so much that this episode has stirred up in me.  I think that one benefit of celebrity for us “nobodies”  is that famous people can play out their dramas in public and portray life in a magnified way so that sometimes we can pick through the drama and learn something. Mel’s girlfriend, Oksana is in a pickle, isn’t she?  She’s saddled with an aging, crumbling man (because when you have a child with someone, you are saddled with them) and she’s saddled her little daughter with one, too. Well, it happened twice yesterday…first, my sister comes in to work and says that my brother-in-law “… is waiting on your post about Mel Gibson .”  To be truthful, I have been so swamped that I was only peripherally aware that Braveheart had been in the news again.  Then, last night on the phone, V says, “ Haven’t you heard the tapes? Oh, C, you should !”  Well, no…. But I have now.  Oh, dear!  This man is so off…he is a danger to this  girlfriend and to his little baby.  That picture above is of the couple in happier days.  If you notice, she is sporting what Mel calls her “alien bodies” which is his demeaning reference to her breast implants-probably one of the very attributes that attracted him in the first place. Look at this cover of Vanity Fair magazine.  Has there ever been a more beautiful human?  I was strolling through the store and spied it.  I was young when Liz and Richard Burton were heating up, but I know they were legendary, and the cover piqued my interest.   I bought it. Sure enough, I turned right to the Taylor-Burton Romance article and began reading about the steam that was generated on the set of Cleopatra , and all the ups and downs of these “lovers.”  The article characterized the “affair” between these two already-marrieds as “ scandalous for the times.”   I guess the implication is that it would be no scandal today… I never made it to the end of the article,  however.  It became clear that Liz and Dick were in love alright, but only with themselves.  These shallow people soon became boring, extremely one-dimensional.  And they don’t come off as particularly smart.  I turned to see if there was anything of re...
