C: Turning the New Year

Well, V and I have certainly been derelict in our blogging duties.  The Christmas season was all-consuming.  I was blessed with a houseful of nephews plus a niece.  The house seems quiet after that many people, but at least one has promised to come in the summer to help me stain porches.

We have lots of snow for our area.  Here is what my place looks like:

Chili is loving the snow.  My problem is that he’s decided he wants to go out in the middle of the night (unusual) and play in the snow for an hour or two, whining at the door when he’s ready to snuggle back down.  I don’t have the heart to leave him out there in low teens weather, so I drag back up to indulge him by letting him back in to sleep.

Notice the deer rib cage Chili has dragged up.  So picturesque in the snow.

And, now, for the sad news.  Earlier this week we had to put my Sheltie, Scout, down.  She rallied a bit last month after her vet visit, but the last couple of weeks have been hard for her.  She would faithfully try to make the trip from my house to MIL’s to take up her guard there when I left for work—the routine.  We’d see her fall over about halfway.  She’d lie there til we almost got to her and then she’d get up to resume the trek.

We began taking her in the car up and down the driveway to spare her the exertion, while keeping her to her routine.  Early this week, just as the snows came, she lost use of her back legs.  There is a bit of a story behind all that, but I’m going to let MIL tell it on her blog in a day or two.

In short, after twelve years of very healthy life, Scout just finally gave out.  I miss her very much.  She was pretty much the perfect dog, living solely to take care of us in any way she could.

But, in spite of that circle of life thing and the fact that I am recovering from a very bad cold, the New Year looks promising.  I hope yours does, too.  C

So sorry about your Scout...it hurts so much to lose a wonderful pet! The snow photos are very pretty!
Sorry to hear of your loss... it's the worst part of pet owndership, the heartache when you lose them.

Now I have to tell you, that Chili is one handsome dog. The deer ribcage? Not so much.

Happy New Year C and V

So sad to say good bye to a beloved pet. They provide so much pleasure as revealed in the photos.
I'm a lurker and a friend of Sandra's. When you didn't post for so long, I was afraid that it was because of Scout. I know the heartache of losing a faithful companion like Scout, and you have my sincere sympathy.

I'm so very sad about Scout. I know you miss him, and we will too, even though we never met, he was such a handsome virtual pet.

I hope your New Year goes from strength to strength, now. Please keep reaching out, please keep us in the loop.

Oh, C, I'm so sorry to hear about Scout. That is the part I hate about having pets -- losing them. But I know you would say it was almost worth it because of the years of companionship you received. Lots of good memories, I'm sure.

When you and V hadn't posted for so long, I wanted to e-mail you, but in my transition from Verizon to Frontier, I lost your e-mail. Please e-mail me when you get a chance so that I have a way to contact you again. :)

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of dear Scout. I know how much that loss hurts. But I believe that she is over the rainbow bridge and has earned her wings.

Happy New Year to you all. I am so, so sorry about Scout. Just reading your post about her little trek to MIL’s made my heart break and I know it did yours. We love our dogs so much--all our animals really and I am sure it’s been hard. I can’t blame you one bit for letting Chili back in to snuggle after his mid-night romp in the snow. That’s what good dog mommies do I guess.
Happy Saturday, Amy

I'm so sorry about Scout. She must've been a great dog.

That 12 year thing: years ago the vet told us to expect that our first Beagle would only live 10-12 years. He sailed right past his 10th and 11th birthdays and I was hoping the vet was wrong.

Shortly after his 12th birthday he developed congestive heart failure and we finally had to have him put to sleep. It was very hard and I'm sorry you've had to go through this, too.

Maybe Chili is out there playing with Scout's angel? I'd like to think so.

Good thing blogging does not have to be a duty, but a pleasure too. When you decide to write and we are on-line we can read your posts and enjoy.

Happy New Year to you and your precious Mother-in-law.
